Senior Database Administrator

The Senior Database Administrator an individual contributor who is a
hands-on DBA for online gaming, multi-media and other entertainment
services. The candidate must be an experienced database administrator with
a good understanding of the needs of the different database architectures
including enterprise grade data warehouses. In particular, the candidate
must know the ins and outs of PostgreSQL databases.

Responsibilities:

-Requires a solid background in administrating and deploying a large scale
online system
-Strong communicator and be capable of moving forward technical issues to
resolution in a fast paced, startup-like environment
-Must be self driven and able to establish processes and best practices
from scratch
-Assist developers in application data modeling
-Participate in planning and design of the database architecture for large
scale, production quality services
-Work in pre-production environments to come with strategies and
architectures for high availability, monitoring, database security, and
backup
-Day to day management activities of production databases for online
system operations: monitoring, troubleshooting, backup, restore, change
management, database upgrades & installs -Help set database and data
warehouse technical direction and drive changes to improve operations,
performance and scalability

Qualifications:
-Able to interact well with fellow operations team and engineering team
members
-Capable of clearly communicating and negotiating technical issues
individually and in a group setting
-Experience in participating in an agile to light weight development
process in a start-up like environment
-Process activities include daily stand-up discussions, iterative, ongoing
development work with goal oriented deliveries
-Must be pro-active to establish best practices for database activities if
none already exist
-This candidate should have excellent database and data warehouse skills
with a focus on PostgreSQL
-Candidate needs to be highly experienced in general database (stored
procedures, triggers), data warehouse (design, modeling, ETL processes)
and supporting business intelligence and reporting work
-Excellent written and verbal English skills are required
-Candidate must be able to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively
in a timely and professional manner with a variety of internal and
external personnel in multiple
-Must be pro-active in documenting work
-Experience in enterprise grade database deployments and administration
-Must have experience in high data volume environment
-Understanding and having experience with software product delivery for
game console, consumer electronics or embedded systems is a plus

Required Experience / Education:
-Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
-At least 6 years experience as a database administrator, including time
spent working in enterprise grade environments
-PostgreSQL: Must have knowledge of enterprise applications running with
PostgreSQL backends
-Data warehouse skills: data warehouse design, data modeling, ETL
processes
-Hands on troubleshooting skills
-Reporting software tools experience such as Crystal Reports or BIRT
required
-Experience with Linux/UNIX systems and scripting knowledge (shell and
Python) required
-Must be able to automate database maintenance, ETL and reporting
processes

Preferred Experience / Education:

-At least 4 years experience with high volume data environments is highly
desired
-Familiarity with Java/Python based O-R mapping solutions desirable
-Familiarity with Java EE and Python application frameworks is a strong
plus
