In a nutshell, now that Monty doesn't work for Sun anymore, the GPL license on MySQL is squashing his ability to sell a new commercial version. So he's pushing regulators to hold up the acquisition of Sun by Oracle.

Perhaps Monty should just give up and start using Postgres. :)
