Position: Database Administrator

Scope of Project:

We are seeking an experienced database administrator/developer to assist in the design, development, and launch of a large scale RDBMS application. The Database Administrator will be involved in creation and evaluation of database design alternatives, data modeling, capacity and index planning, and performance tuning. The project will run from the design phase to transition of existing clients from Descartes' legacy solution. Familiarity with web development platforms and architectures (AJAX, Perl, Java, JavaScript) is desirable as the Database Administrator will be working closely with Descartes' development team.

Requirements:

* Experience in design and implementation of large scale performance-oriented RDBMS applications
* In depth knowledge of POSTGRESQL 8+ on Linux, including familiarity with:
- Clustering
- Replication and mirroring strategies
- Performance Tuning
- Metadata management
- DB schema management
* Proficiency with SQL
* Familiarity with working in a LINUX based environment
* General DB Management
- Data Modeling
- Capacity planning
- Data security
- Storage management
* Ability to work with minimum guidance

Desired Qualifications:

* Knowledge of web application development platforms is highly desirable (Java, Perl, HTML, XML, CGI, JavaScript)

Contract Details:

* Full-Time Contractor
* Term of contract not to exceed October 31, 2011
