Position: Senior Database Administrator - Postgres

Location: NYC

Company: Software company in Media and Advertising

Responsibilities

The Senior Database Administrator participates in the overall database
system architecture and the configuration of the development, testing,
demonstration, training and production environments as a 24x7 operation.

This position will be involved with the migration of several custom Java
applications from Oracle to EnterpriseDB's Postgres Advanced Server. These
applications are mostly transactional web based applications but there are a
few applications dealing with large amounts of data through an ETL process.
This position requires someone with a strong Postgres background to help
apply best practices to their still evolving Postgres infrastructure.

The Senior Database Administrator will be responsible for capacity planning,
high availability, load balancing and performance tuning, business
continuity and monitoring of the Postgres environments. This will include
assisting developers with SQL tuning and indexing.

Required Skills:

. 3+ years of Postgres administration in production application environment

. Must have led medium to large size database administrations project

. Strong understanding of high availability and load balanced solutions

. Strong understanding of Postgres system data for auditing, troubleshooting
and monitoring

. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

. Strong organizational and communication skills

. Understanding of network concepts

. Strong scripting skills in one or more common languages. For example:
perl, python, bash, etc.

Desired Skills:

. Experience with Java web and/or Java client-server applications

. Experience with Oracle relational database system
