That's bizarre. Do you have anything in ~/.psqlrc? I'm also wondering
(though too lazy to experiment) whether this effect could be produced
via "ALTER DATABASE foo SET role = bar" ... checking
pg_database.datconfig would be enough to eliminate that idea ...
