Key Responsibilities

* Database Architecture & Data Modeling
Design and maintain scalable, normalized and denormalized schemas for microservices and reporting use cases using PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Cassandra (especially for time-series or high-write workloads).
* Query & Aggregation Development
Write and optimize SQL queries, views, materialized views, stored procedures, and MongoDB aggregation pipelines. Develop efficient CQL-based queries and data models for Cassandra in distributed environments.
* Application Integration
Work closely with Java Spring Boot teams to define efficient ORM mappings (Hibernate, JPA) and API-facing query strategies. Participate in schema evolution and entity refactoring across SQL and NoSQL platforms.
* Performance Optimization
Analyze execution plans, tune queries, recommend indexes, and optimize joins, batch loads, and aggregation logic for high-throughput transactional systems. Use Cassandra’s partitioning and clustering keys for performance.
* Reporting Logic
Develop backend logic and data layers to support BI tools and custom dashboards. Collaborate with frontend and data teams to meet data presentation requirements.
* Data Governance & Standards
Define and enforce constraints, validation logic, and naming conventions across services. Work with analysts and QA to ensure data consistency across PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Cassandra.
* Versioning & Deployment
Maintain schema versioning using Flyway or Liquibase or any relevant tools. Review and approve migration scripts as part of CI/CD workflows with DevOps.
* Backup Knowledge (Supportive)
Coordinate with infra teams for PostgreSQL PITR, MongoDB snapshot/restore, and Cassandra backup integration. Validate restore logic periodically, without being the primary owner.

Must-Have Skills

* Proficiency in SQL query optimization, indexing, schema design, and MongoDB/Cassandra aggregation pipelines.
* Hands-on experience collaborating with backend developers and writing query logic that supports APIs and domain-driven models.
* Comfortable with high-concurrency systems, denormalized views, partitioning, and materialized logic.
* Deep understanding of Cassandra’s data modeling (e.g., primary key vs. partition key), compaction strategies, and consistency trade-offs.
* Proficient in cloud-native databases (e.g., GCP/AWS PostgreSQL, MongoDB Atlas, Cassandra DBaaS) and Kubernetes-based DB deployments.

Nice-to-Have Skills

* Kafka, RabbitMQ, or event-driven persistence models.
* Experience with Redis or in-memory caching strategies.
* Exposure to OpenSearch / Elasticsearch for analytics or log event pipelines.
* Familiarity with RBAC, encryption, and row-level security in regulated environments (GDPR, SOC2).
* Experience supporting reporting engines or data extraction for BI.
