Well, I'm not sure what sort of ideas you are looking for --- if you
need ammunition to convince your boss you could use my arguments to
my boss:

1) Writing non-free software is not an ethically legitimate activity...
(Paraphrase of Richard Stallman)

2) There is money in personalised tech support contracts - which is
a legitimate activity! ;-)

3) Giving away code on the web is a hook that oftens catches customers
for other goods and services. Goodwill does help businesses grow...

Anyway, these are simply my opinions but they did persuade my employer.

The larger issue:

Currently, Marc (scrappy) includes the accounting program on the PG cds.
I'd like to see alot more OSS products (generic or Pg specific) appear
on the postgres web page(s) and cd. The Freemoney project (from which
Dieter and I were a spinoff) was the impetus for the SQL Ledger project
and I suspect that Dieter would not object to expanding the project to
include other features *or* bundling all the Pg OSS projects into a
larger, fuller featured Pg database...at least the idea is worth exploring.
