I have seen (developed and worked on) postgresql installations on freeBSD
in HUGE enterprise environments in which numerous IDS and Vuln Assessment
appliances where pounding it with data by the second - and it did not fall
(many instances with F100+ clients). We were running raid5 as well, and
webserver and DB were all local to one machine. Have yet to test on Linux.
Like FreeBSD alot though. So do the folks a Apple, they moved from the mach
kernel to a FreeBSD kernel - for whatever that's worth. This may not answer
your question, but I hope it gives you confidence that FreeBSD and Postgres
are a workable combo at the very least.
