Role

* Planning, coordinating, and administering activities related to PostgreSQL database(s), including:

- Backup
- Performance benchmarking
- Upgrades
- Operational guidelines
- Security
- Account management

* Coding both server side (PL/pgSQL and SQL) and client side (Ruby, Shell, Pentaho, and Python) as needed
* Partner with project team to ensure the most effective and efficient strategy for:

- Database access
- Query optimization
- Database concurrency
- Schema design
- Assist and mentor engineers in optimizing queries and schemas

Education/Experience Required

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- 5-8 years relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- 5 years DBA experience with Oracle, Postgres, and mySQL

Required Competencies

- Solid database development skills
- Exceptional ability to identify and resolve database-related issues
- Experience in developing stored function and database client applications
- Knowledge of standard operating procedures for administering PostgreSQL databases
- Experience in performance of Tune and Benchmark PostgreSQL databases, as well as working knowledge of back-up and recovery PostgreSQL databases
- Skilled in user, schema, and storage management
- Results-oriented and service-minded
- Willingness to adapt to the many changing requirements/needs of a fast-growing, young company
- Collaborative work ethic and ability to work in a team-oriented culture
- Motivated, self-directed, and proactive with a willingness to take on additional projects

- Good oral and written communications skills

Preferred Competencies

- Working knowledge of Ruby
- Working knowledge of Pentaho and Kettle
- Amazon EC2/EBS experience
