When: 6-8pm Thursday June 15, 2017
Where: iovation
Who: Kevin Jernigan, AWS
What: Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL)
In 2014, AWS announced Amazon Aurora – a cloud-native, MySQL-compatible
relational database. Features include fault-tolerant, self-healing storage
that allows customers to scale from 10 GB all the way up to 64 TB without
pre-provisioning. Aurora makes six copies of data across three Availability
Zones and backs it up to Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) without
impacting performance or availability. Customers can create up to 15
low-latency read replicas that draw from common storage.
In response to repeated customer requests for the same capabilities for
PostgreSQL, AWS announced the Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL-compatible edition
in late 2016.
In this talk we’ll cover what makes Aurora (PostgreSQL) different from
PostgreSQL, as well as what remains the same. We’ll discuss compatibility,
scalability and performance. Please bring your scenarios, questions and
requests!

If you have a job posting or event you would like me to announce at the
meeting, please send it along. The deadline for inclusion is 5pm the day
before the meeting.
--
Our meeting will be held at iovation, on the 32nd floor of the US Bancorp
Tower at 111 SW 5th (5th & Oak). It's right on the Green & Yellow Max
lines. Underground bike parking is available in the parking garage;
outdoors all around the block in the usual spots. No bikes in the office,
sorry!
iovation provides us a light dinner (usually sandwiches or pizza).
Elevators open at 5:45 and building security closes access to the floor at
6:30.
See you there!
