Staff Engineer - Applications/Database Developer (Palo Alto, CA or Cambridge, MA)

VMware Inc., a pioneer in virtualization software for Industry-standard computers, is seeking a senior engineer to lead performance analysis and improvement of databases in Virtual Machine and NAS environments. Person will be responsible for all end to end performance issues and lead a small team of engineers working on the same product.

Requirements:

- Expertise in performance analysis and tuning of RDBMS, specifically OLTP databases
- Development, performance analysis, and debugging experience around databases, systems software, synchronization and locking
- Experience with TPC-* benchmarks
- Systems software knowledge, particularly linux
- Automation/Scripting abilities in some scripting language
- Need to be able to mentor more junior team members, and communicate very well with local and remote team members
- Experience with flash/SSD, IO subsystems, and modern CPU architectures
- 10+ years experience in the industry

Nice to have:

- Experience with open source DBMS like PostgreSQL or MySQL
