SysAdmin North Yorkshire, UK - PostgreSQL/PostGIS

Hi All

We're looking for a Sys Admin who understand *nix and PostgreSQL.

We'd like someone with 2-3 years of *nix experience, an understanding of Windows and some PostgreSQL, who is a problem solver, and curious. We're mostly a Windows shop, doing interesting things with flood data on GIS - ArcGIS and PostGIS are critical systems. We're increasing our Linux systems and need someone who can keep them ticking over so that the rest of the team can get on with their jobs. We're in North Yorkshire, near Skipton, and it's an onsite role.

We run moderately large GIS data sets (300-500 Gb), from around 40TB of data, for flood risk analysis on PostgreSQL database, ArcGIS and in-house tools. We're moving PostgreSQL and R applications to Linux (mostly RH/SL7), and are looking for someone to manage and monitor those systems, as well as give user support as needed.

Ideally we'd like someone who has experience of

Linux or *BSD
User support in a mixed computing environment
Performance of general and daily system administration tasks
Basic networking protocols
Performance monitoring and tuning
Maintaining incident and support log
Maintaining and documenting systems

With skills in
Linux/BSD
PostgreSQL
Shell Scripting
Machine builds and systems installation
User Support
Problem Solving
Curiosity
