Dear ,

We are pleased to announce the exciting new Release 2007 of Continuent
uni/cluster.

Continuent, Inc., the leading provider of commercial open source
middleware solutions for database high availability and scalability,
announced earlier today Continuent™ 2007 uni/cluster.

Continuent’s uni/cluster 2007 family includes two database specific
products:
- Continuent uni/cluster 2007 for MySQL Enterprise and
- Continuent uni/cluster 2007 for PostgreSQL

The new release includes performance improvements of 100% or more, a
new uni/cluster Connector to allow MySQL clients to connect directly
without special libraries, and better configuration, management and
administration tools.

With this release Continuent also promotes Super Durable Commit, which
ensures that all valuable transactions are committed to multiple
locations to avoid data loss. This feature is enabled by
uni/cluster’s replication mechanism, which synchronously commits data
to each database in the cluster, thus providing a solution for health
care and other highly regulated environments that require absolute
confidence that all transactions have been committed and can’t be
lost.

If you are concerned about any of the following…
- Application Availability
- Read Scalability
- Write Scalability
- 100% confidence that all transaction will be committed
- Disaster Recovery
- Geographically Distributed Operations
… you want to talk with Continuent, the High Availability and
Scalability Experts!

Continuent uni/cluster Release 2007 – Summary of Key Features
**********************************************************************

Continuent plans to deliver uni/cluster 2007 in May 2007. This
release contains a number of important enhancements based on our
experience with production deployments that will help users set up,
deploy, and manage database clusters more efficiently.

Over 100% Performance Improvements
uni/cluster 2007 contains a number of performance improvements
designed to reduce latency of operations and raise throughput. Among
other changes, throughput of SQL write statements like INSERT or
UPDATE is more than doubled over the previous release. Memory usage
has been improved. Other operations have been carefully tuned.

Super Durable Commit
Super Durable Commit ensures that valuable transactions are committed
to multiple locations to avoid data loss. This feature is enabled by
uni/cluster’s replication mechanism, which synchronously commits data
to each database in the cluster.

uni/cluster Connector for MySQL
uni/cluster Connector for MySQL allows standard MySQL clients to
connect to uni/cluster directly without the need for extra libraries
on the client host. This feature greatly enhances uni/cluster
integration with MySQL, as clients written in any language can connect
to uni/cluster from any platform as if they were speaking directly to
a native MySQL Server. The first release supports all client features
other than prepared statements, which will be added in the next
release.

EnterpriseDB PostgreSQL Mode Certification
With this release uni/cluster has installation-time support for
EnterpriseDB, which allows users to run with JDBC drivers shipped with
EnterpriseDB database server 8.1. Currently only PostgreSQL mode is
supported on EnterpriseDB; Oracle PL/SQL mode support will be added in
a later release.

Administration Changes
The command line console has a number of additions designed to
simplify administrative commands and reduce chances of operator error.
Among other things, these improvements allow users to enable and
disable database back-ends in groups and reduce response time of
status commands commonly used for monitoring. In addition to command
line tools, both upgrade and patch processes are greatly improved.

Virtual Database Enhancements
uni/cluster 2007 introduces the ability to store virtual database
recovery logs in MySQL, which has both good performance as well as
reliability. In addition, this release removes restart ordering
dependencies for controllers and virtual databases, thereby making
cluster start-up following events like machine reboot simpler and more
reliable. Finally, the release includes improved procedures for
handling network partitions.

Java JDK 1.6 Certification
As of uni/cluster 2007, uni/cluster is certified for use with Java JDK
1.6.

Improved Distribution of Native APIs
Native API binary builds will be simplified and conveniently
distributed through the open source Carob project hosted at
www.continuent.org. As of uni/cluster 2007 native API code will also
be available in the form of source builds, which allow users to build
APIs quickly on non-standard platforms.
