[pgsql-ayuda] problemas con instalacion de pgsql_6.4

hola a tod(at)s,

parece ser que la instalacion la he hecho bien. pero cuando trato de
hacer initdb desde un nombre de usuario (que tiene correctamente
a�didas los directorios en el bash_profile) me dice que

We are initializing the database system with username XXXX (uid=500).
This user will own all the files and must also own the server process.

mkdir: no se puede crear el directorio
`/usr/local/pgsql/data/base/template1': Permiso denegado
Creating template database in /usr/local/pgsql/data/base/template1
ERROR: cannot create pg_proc
ERROR: cannot create pg_proc
initdb: could not create template database
initdb: cleaning up by wiping out /usr/local/pgsql/data/base/template1

todos los ficheros y directorios de pgsql tienen como usuario y como
grupo postgres.
