And, sadly, I think questionable effectiveness...

It's pretty easy code to write; I'm actually more inclined to remove it and
avoid the clutter. I'll probably put a comment in the code as to how to do
it, and what the pitfalls are - then I/we don't need to maintain any more
unused code.
