IMO, Sun bought mysql for a simple reason. To sell servers. Companies
like having a single entity to go to. If *I* as joe shop can say, I
need a LAMP solution.. Sun can say, "For 9995.00, you get a decent,
supported LAMP solution that is 100% open source running on our famously
kick butt hardware and our famously kick butt now open source Solaris
operating system. Oh and btw, you get MySQL the World's most *cough
cough wink wink* popular database system."
Heck I could sell that with my eyes closed and an Elephant on my back.
Of course Sun has to execute, and that is a whole other ball of ear wax
for them.
Sincerely,
Joshua D. Drake
