With 7.2.5, 7.3.7, and 7.4.5 now out in the wild, folks refocused their
efforts on the PostgreSQL 8.0 beta, apparently with enough fervor that a
beta2 package is being planned for release, so keep an eye out for the
announcement.
So a new beta package must mean we have closed up some open items, so let's
run through the list of fixes shall we? A memory leak in handling resource
owners in long running transactions was addressed. Several problems in user
locks were fixed. Kill(pid,0) was successfully ported to Windows. A missing
Assert in TransactionIdDidAbort was added in. The -D flag in pg_ctl is now
propagated to the postmaster for command-line identification. Several stale
pid issues on win32 were fixed. Problems with PITR replay handling
CREATE/DROP DATABASE/TABLESPACE were corrected. Latestly, several issues in
the spinlock code were worked out.
If you have not yet downloaded beta1, now is a good time to prepare for
beta2. Make sure to check the list of open items
(ftp://momjian.postgresql.org/pub/postgresql/open_items) and check the
release notes included in the new package for any updates.
