The thing that inspired it was actually a trigger, and I'm a little
bit nervous about using PL/Perl triggers while they're still beta.

How about a CPAN (P for PostgreSQL, or maybe PL/*)?

On a slightly related note, is there anything in the works for making
packages (or otherwise de-flattening the namespace) in Pl/PgSQL?
