The doc directory contains the following references to the hba.conf(5)
man page, which does not exist in the distribution:

./FAQ: host entry to the file pgsql/data/pg_hba.conf. See the pg_hba.conf
./FAQ- manual page.

./src/sgml/ref/create_user.sgml: See pg_hba.conf(5) or the administrator's guide for details on
./src/sgml/ref/create_user.sgml- how to set up authentication mechanisms.
./src/sgml/protocol.sgml:uses this, and the information in the pg_hba.conf(5) file to determine what
./src/sgml/protocol.sgml-further authentication information it requires the frontend to send (if any)
./src/sgml/protocol.sgml:and the contents of the pg_hba.conf(5) file to determine what authentication
./src/sgml/protocol.sgml-method the frontend must use. The postmaster then responds with one of the
./src/sgml/release.sgml:new SQL USER commands. See the pg_hba.conf manual page for more
./src/sgml/release.sgml-information. There is a new table, pg_shadow, which is used to store
./src/sgml/security.sgml:	connecting to. See <citetitle>pg_hba.conf(5)</citetitle>
./src/sgml/security.sgml-	for a description of the authentication
