I can tell you what's happening, but not why.

Anything that's not alphabetic (alphanumeric, maybe) is being ignored.
So, removing them, you have:

StatStuff
STEvo
STP
STPolithings

And that's a reasonable sort order. But what setting controls this
behavior, I don't know.
