i am having a problem with c++;

firstly, i am using scanf to get two words

scanf("%19s %19s",firstname,surname);

but i need to somehow have it so that when the user presses z and then enter
it calls anouther function(without asking for the surname)

secondly, i have to get 1 char from the user without him/her pressing
return. ie press any key to continue type thing.

i know about system("pause") but i need my own message.

i hope you can help me
