Postgres DBA/Developer Job Description

OVERVIEW
We have an immediate opening for Postgres DBA/Developer who has solid
DBA skills and Postgres experience.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide technical expertise and support for nCircle's Postgres backed
network security product line.
* Implement, manage, and monitor databases
* Tune the Postgress database to meet new functional and
performance releases
* Perform DB profiling and optimization, assist QA with all phases
of software development and deployment support for DB installations
* Perform database monitoring, maintenance, reorganizations,
resource management, schema management, and capacity planning and
performance tuning for the company's databases
* Perform database and SQL tuning.
* Implement and maintain disaster recovery plans for critical
production databases and applications.
* Time to market flexibility combining open source component
utilization, rapid refactoring of existing code base and quick
prototyping of new component solutions
* Participate in shared learning with other team members
* Document code and report on project deliverables
* On Call availability as required to address database problems in
the production environment
* Participate in product development
* Contribute ideas and suggestions in support of the Engineering
team goals of continuous improvement

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
* Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information
Technology or related discipline specializing in DB development
preferred.
* Expert knowledge of Postgres
* Minimum 5 years increasingly complex DBA assignments, working
with enterprise level software meeting 24x7 operational requirements
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of DB scoping,
profiling, scaling and fault tolerant operation
* Proven knowledge and understanding of enterprise scaled servers
and databases
* Experienced with disciplined DBA methodologies including
development and operational considerations
* Ability to provide support for development, test, and production
environments, including setup of new servers, databases, and objects
within the database.
* Experience in software development using Perl, Shell, or other
scripting languages.

* Solid background using UNIX operating systems - Linux, FreeBSD a
plus
