Location
: Austin, TX
Description
MessageOne, the fastest growing company in the business continuity
industry, is looking for talented database engineers to design,
implement and maintain its database systems. The Postgres DBA will work
closely with the MessageOne Operations team to ensure the integrity and
efficiency of all production, staging, and business analytics databases,
focusing on performance analysis, high availability, and data integrity.
If you love databases, enjoy working on a variety of them, get a kick
out of tweaking, configuring and re-configuring, building tools and
automations around them and making them efficient (and fast), this could
be the job for you. This is your opportunity to help build what will
become one of the largest most distributed instances of Postgres in the
world.
Candidates must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and
contributing to strong cross-functional product teams.
Responsibilities
* Design, implement and operate 24/7/365 high availability
Postgres production and development databases.
* Define and implement maintenance procedures including Disaster
Recovery and DB maintenance (VACUUM scheduling)
* Investigate and implement high-availability solutions to achieve
uptime goals
* Develop back-up and recovery procedures, including testing
back-ups and data integrity
* Design and implement measurement systems to assess service
delivery and key performance indicators of critical applications.
* Plan and support the implementation of major architectural
changes
* Provide direction in capacity planning, performance
improvements, and storage management in partnership with Operations and
Development teams
* Proactive and reactive performance analysis, monitoring,
troubleshooting and resolution of issues
* Interface with Network, Hardware and System operations teams to
resolve problems with application/database systems
Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
* 3+ years supporting production database systems in a 24/7/365
environment
* PostgreSQL or Enterprisedb configuration and performance tuning
experience
* Extensive experience working with highly available enterprise
database systems
* Experience in high transaction rate OLTP environment
* Experience working with PostgreSQL backups using PostgreSQL
database dumps and transaction logs
* Experience with database replication (Slony), clustering, and
table partitioning
* Experience tuning Linux to get the best performance possible for
PostgreSQL
* Experience with database layouts on high performance disk
subsystems
* Excellent SQL skills and experience with scripting languages
(Python/Perl/Shell scripting)
* Knowledge of Stored Procedures, Triggers, Views, and Types
* Understand use of Normalization and Denormalization, including
the benefits of each
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
* Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills conducive
to team development
* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
