POSTGRESQL BUG REPORT TEMPLATE
============================================================================

Your name : Scott Wells
Your email address : shadsys(at)indy(dot)net

Category : runtime: back-end: SQL
Severity : critical

Summary: Postmaster hangs on SQL statement error

System Configuration
--------------------
Operating System : OpenBSD 2.4

PostgreSQL version : 6.4.2

Compiler used : gcc 2.8.1

Hardware:
---------
Occurs on two systems. #1 AMD K6/300, 32MB RAM, uname: OpenBSD neptune 2.4 NEPTUNE#3 i386. #2 TI 486/66 16MB RAM uname: OpenBSD pluto 2.4 PLUTO#7 i386.

Versions of other tools:
------------------------
gmake 3.76.1
GNU Bison 1.25
flex 2.5.4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Problem Description:
--------------------
Anytime an erroneous statement (only noted in SQL statements, haven't been able to recreate it with \ commands) is issued via either psql or ODBC, the postmaster hangs until kill -15 the process that issued the invalid statement.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Test Case:
----------
Noticed first when trying to export a table from MSAccess to PostgeSQL 6.4.2 w/ ODBC driver 6.40.0004. Then noticed it with psql. Stopped and started the postmaster running the the foreground with the -d option, and anytime the parser gets an error, the postmaster hangs until the process that caused the error is killed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Solution:
---------
