Problemas instalando Pgpool

Llevo días tratando de instalar pgpool y no doy con ello. Desde el mismo momento en que le doy ./configure me da el error. Estos son los datos de mi PC

SO: Ubuntu 10.4
Postgres: 9.0.1 Instalado en la carpeta /usr/local/pgsql
Pgpool: pgpool-II-3.1.0-alpha1

En la pc no tenga nadamás instalado que no sea el Postgres 9.0.1 y los programas que se instalan por defecto, a lo mejor es que tengo que instalar algo más o es que estoy ejecutando mal el ./configure. No se porque no coge las librerías libpq si están ahí en la carpeta de la instalación, así como el pg_config. Agradecería mucho que alguien que lo halla instalado me ayude.
