FUD - Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt

Basically, it is the practice of spreading information (whether the info
is true or not doesn't matter - generally, if the info is "somewhat
true", FUD seems to work better) about a competing product or
competitor, such that it causes others to either avoid a competing
product, or to "wait and see" what that product or competitor will do.

Thus, by using FUD and stalling the market, the competitor can use the
created time window to a) finish their product, b) improve their
product, or c) slow/halt/reverse adoption of a competing product.

I am sure there are other reasons for FUD as well, but these are the
major ones.

FUD becomes true FUD when the information being passed actually refers
to issues of the competitor that are no longer true at the current point
in time, but *were true* in the very recent past. This is because some
people may not be super up-to-date on the latest offerings, services, or
actions of a company - so you may get agreement and disagreements about
what is or isn't going on with a company and its products within the
industry. This is what causes the uncertainty and doubt that inspires
the fear (the fear of adopting a product, the fear of moving away from a
current product).

Hope this helps...
