Write a migration tutorial and post it to the major web development
sites (webmonkey, sitepoint.com, devshed.com, phpbuilder.com, etc).
That's where PHP users are most-influenced. These tutorials have
enabled so many people to get into server-side scripting, and most of
the tutorials use MySQL. (I speak as a former full-time PHP programmer
who did use MySQL for PHP app development, because that's how I learned it.)

And, to avoid the connotation of bias, whomever writes such a migration
tutorial might want to suggest using the PEAR:DB abstraction layer to
avoid migration hassles in the future. http://pear.php.net/
