The problem here isn't really that we require a great testing and staging
procedure for introducing new autoconf versions. The issue at hand is
strictly that we shouldn't introduce a new autoconf version at the night of
beta 3.

When we want to move to a newer autoconf, we can handle it like any other
patch.
