I just noticed that my pg8 system which is doing WAL archiving has a .backup
file in the pg_xlog directory for each base backup I take as well as one in
the pitr archive directory. Do I need to manually remove the ones in pg_xlog
as well as the ones in my archive dir?

Before I reinvent the wheel, has anyone already cooked up a handy script for
removing the wal archives older than the just finished base backup?
