Hello,

I am forced to convince people to use PostgreSQL on a Win98 net. So I
tried the

postgresql-win32-client-6.4.2.zip

The server is running on a linux box. After setup there started a window,
issuing an error message that there is no server on the local host and
then died.

When trying at dos prompt I managed to get a connection to the server
because I had the chance to enter some command line options. When using
the option -u I was asked for user name and password. I tried with the
unix password as well as with a password explicitly set from within pgsql
at the server. In both cases I got: athentication failed. The connection
to the host was successful, because these error messages were to be found
in the log file on the host.

I miss a README or something for configuring this win-32-client. It should
be possible to use it without using a dos window. That not the way to
convince Win users.

Because I have to convince them next monday I need help urgently.

Thanks in advance

Werner
