Bruce,

it's because search engine based on inverted indices doesn't
suited for online updating, even if indices are kept in PG.

This is what we try to overcome in pgsql.ru - all messages are indexed online.

http://www.pgsql.ru/db/mw/index.html?section=-1&word=pgbench&action=Search&sdb_d=23&sdb_m=11&sdb_y=2004&sde_d=23&sde_m=12&sde_y=2004&weight=0&format=0&order=1
