Job Title: Database Developer

Reports to: Software Development Manager

Function: The primary responsibility of the person holding this position is to plan and direct aspects of database development activities

Essential Tasks and Duties:
Provide technical guidance for the development of the database driven products
Report to the Software Development Manager and Database Lead on the status of development projects
Write reporting code in scripting language as needed
Database design
Interact with application developers, give guidance, review code

Additional Responsibilities and Duties:
Follow all company safety policies and procedures
Uphold Zonar’s Quality Policy and Objectives
Perform all other duties as required
Overtime as required
Travel as required to support Zonar’s needs

Knowledge and Skills:
Significant background in creating complex functions/stored procedures and SQL scripts
Understanding of database normalization concepts
Scripting languages such as python, perl, sh, php, etc.
Strong analytical skills
Project management skills
Revision control system knowledge
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to set goals, and achieve scheduled deadlines
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Experience:
Required:
Minimum 5 + years of experience in database development with PostgreSQL or similar RDBMS
High Availability experience with near zero-downtime
Experience in logical and physical database design and implementation
Experience with database system scaling
Experience with database tuning for performance
2+ years of experience in managing projects and timelines
Desired:
Experience with PostGIS extension, or other geospatially aware database
Experience in a Fedora or Redhat Linux (Or other UNIX/Linux)
Experience with HA-Linux utilizing heartbeat and DRBD
Experience with Cassandra or other NoSQL systems

Education:
Bachelors degree in related field, or equivalent experience

Working Conditions: Standard work week is 40 hours. Work generally conducted in a climate controlled office environment. May be required to visit customer locations, which could be truck yard, maintenance facility and other industrial locations.

Financial Responsibilities: Recommendations for equipment upgrades and purchases are encouraged, but must be submitted to the Supervisor for approval.
