Nope, I haven't gone that far.  I  just had the code that was causing
the crash (from accessing bad memory) inside:
if(!PG_ARGISNULL(0)) {
}
and I'm sure that the function isn't actually being called with a null
argument (for one thing, it's declared 'strict').
