Lots of years ago I got invited to a meeting from Debian.
They wanted to discuss what they could do better behind the
booth. They invited me because in their eyes the PostgreSQL booth
was the best example how it could work.

Bernd and me always tried to make an open booth. To animate people to
enter the booth. We not took a table as barrier. We placed tables that
way that
people really could enter the booth. That there wasn't a table between
us and the
visitor.

We never have had dress code problems at postgresql. We don't have a
dress code
because we never needed it. All our helpers usually know how to dress.

One important thing at the booth is that you are open to visitors. When
you will sit
at the booth, starring into your laptop then a visitor will think that
you are really busy.
The visitor won't stop and he won't chat with you. The visitor thinks
you will fear the
communication.

When you look to the visitor when you smile when your whole body is
signalising that
you are open for chats then visitors will stop and chat with you.

Additionally, visitors fear crowds. When there are too much booth staff
then they start
chatting with each other. The visitor gets the feeling that they want to
be alone that they
don't want to have third persons chatting with them. So visitors will
pass instead of stop.
