Hi,
Apologies if this is the wrong list for this - please feel free to
direct me elsewhere!
When trying to install Postgresql 8.0 (windows native version) on any
Windows 2003 server on a customer's network (Domain Controller or Member
Server), I am consistently seeing the postmaster service fail to start.
The following error message is reported:
2005-11-15 11:34:19 LOG: could not translate host name "localhost",
service "5432" to address: Unknown host
2005-11-15 11:34:19 WARNING: could not create listen socket for
"localhost"
2005-11-15 11:34:19 FATAL: no socket created for listening
I do not believe this is a problem with DNS on the site as other
applications (ping, nslookup, tracert) all report that localhost
resolves to 127.0.0.1. Changing postgresql.conf to have different port
or listen_addresses parameter always results in the same error message
with the new values for the parameters listed.
e.g.
listen_addresses=127.0.0.1
port=9010
Results in:
2005-11-15 12:22:51 LOG: could not translate host name "127.0.0.1",
service "9010" to address: Unknown host
2005-11-15 12:22:51 WARNING: could not create listen socket for
"127.0.0.1"
2005-11-15 12:22:51 FATAL: no socket created for listening
I've tried searching through mailing list archives, FAQs, and bug-lists,
but can't see anything that seems relevant.
Can anyone suggest what might be happening or give me some advice on
where to direct my investigation?
Many thanks,
Ed
