did you add postgresql_enable="YES" to /etc/rc.conf like the install
process tells you?
more /usr/ports/databases/postgresql80-server/pkg-message-server :
To run PostgreSQL at startup, add
'postgresql_enable="YES"' to /etc/rc.conf
