Position Summary
The PostgreSQL Database Engineer is involved in leading design,
installation, integration, and maintenance of the various PostgreSQL
databases in the G2 core applications, TRUEconnect and TRUEswitch. Perform
ongoing technical requirements analysis of database installations and create
integration design specifications.
Organization Structure
This position reports to and receives direction from the Lead DBA. Data
requirements will be provided by the Solution Designers, internal subject
matter experts, and the development teams.
Performance Objectives
1. Design: During the first 30 days, collaborate with the
project team leads, solution designers and subject matter experts to create
data requirements for the various database schemas.
2. Operations: Define and implement data backup & recovery plans
and data replication, retention, & purge plans according to business and
system requirements.
3. Engineering: Consult with hardware engineers and other
engineering staff to evaluate operational & performance requirements of the
overall system.
4. Keep systems current: Define and implement database version
upgrades and data migration plans as new versions become available.
5. Collaborate with application development teams to ensure
proper interoperability with the object relational mapping sub-system.
6. Coordinate with Application Support team on integration,
installation and acceptance of new database infrastructures as well as
adapting current infrastructures.
7. Balance the needs of others while properly executing on
assigned tasks and adapt to rapidly changing and evolving requirements.
8. Establish standards and policies for database users, tables,
fields, etc.
9. Apply generally accepted database standards and techniques to
assure efficient database design and operation.
Technical Environment
Production and development environments are running both Oracle and
PostgreSQL Database installations on a Linux platform. We are creating high
volume, high availability, distributed software applications using open
source technologies.
General Qualifications
Solid experience building and maintaining a production deployed PostgreSQL
database. Passion for technology and the ability to think creatively when
solving difficult problems. Knowledge of MySQL, Oracle, JDBC, JMS,
Hibernate, and other similar technologies would be beneficial.
Airline/Travel industry experience a big plus. Start-up or Internet
exposure valuable.
