Aqui el problema no es de como instalaste Postgres, sino de que no
configuraste la autentificacion para que hiciera lo que tu quieres.

Te sugiero que mires la documentacion, la seccion "client
authentication". El archivo pg_hba.conf es lo que necesitas modificar
para acomodar el servidor a tu situacion.
