Mike Pechkin (mpech(at)openbsd(dot)org) reports a bug with a severity of 1

postgresql=# CREATE USER mpech777;
CREATE USER
postgresql=# alter USER mpech777 password 'dddd';
server closed the connection unexpectedly
This probably means the server terminated abnormally
before or while processing the request.
The connection to the server was lost. Attempting reset: Failed.
