From a502e50b1832aba3dd19d3a4f27832a8a3226ea4 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Fujii Masao Date: Thu, 6 Aug 2026 11:29:47 +0900 Subject: [PATCH v1] Distinguish publication exclusions in object addresses pg_publication_rel entries can represent either explicitly published relations or tables excluded from FOR ALL TABLES publications. However, object address code treated all pg_publication_rel entries as publication relations, without checking prexcept. That made EXCEPT entries look like ordinary published-table mappings in dependency messages, pg_identify_object(), and pg_identify_object_as_address(). Fix this by distinguishing EXCEPT entries in the object address code. They are now reported as publication exclusions, with object identities indicating that the table is excluded from the publication. Also accept "publication exclusion" as an object type in pg_get_object_address(), so the output of pg_identify_object_as_address() continues to round-trip. "publication relation" resolves only non-EXCEPT entries, while "publication exclusion" resolves only EXCEPT entries. --- src/backend/catalog/objectaddress.c | 118 ++++++++++++++++++---- src/test/regress/expected/publication.out | 26 +++++ src/test/regress/sql/publication.sql | 22 ++++ 3 files changed, 149 insertions(+), 17 deletions(-) diff --git a/src/backend/catalog/objectaddress.c b/src/backend/catalog/objectaddress.c index 703754a8123..25553e66c3f 100644 --- a/src/backend/catalog/objectaddress.c +++ b/src/backend/catalog/objectaddress.c @@ -721,6 +721,8 @@ static const ObjectPropertyType ObjectProperty[] = * must be careful to test for invalid values being returned. * * To ease maintenance, this follows the order of getObjectTypeDescription. + * Some object classes can report different type strings for the same catalog + * depending on tuple contents; keep such aliases next to the base type. */ static const struct object_type_map { @@ -916,6 +918,9 @@ static const struct object_type_map { "publication relation", OBJECT_PUBLICATION_REL }, + { + "publication exclusion", OBJECT_PUBLICATION_REL + }, { "subscription", OBJECT_SUBSCRIPTION }, @@ -958,7 +963,8 @@ static ObjectAddress get_object_address_usermapping(List *object, bool missing_ok); static ObjectAddress get_object_address_publication_rel(List *object, Relation *relp, - bool missing_ok); + bool missing_ok, + bool pubrel_is_exclusion); static ObjectAddress get_object_address_publication_schema(List *object, bool missing_ok); static ObjectAddress get_object_address_defacl(List *object, @@ -979,6 +985,7 @@ static void getOpFamilyIdentity(StringInfo buffer, Oid opfid, List **object, bool missing_ok); static void getRelationIdentity(StringInfo buffer, Oid relid, List **object, bool missing_ok); +static bool isPublicationRelationExcept(Oid pubreloid, bool missing_ok); /* * Translate an object name and arguments (as passed by the parser) to an @@ -1209,7 +1216,8 @@ get_object_address(ObjectType objtype, Node *object, case OBJECT_PUBLICATION_REL: address = get_object_address_publication_rel(castNode(List, object), &relation, - missing_ok); + missing_ok, + false); break; case OBJECT_DEFACL: address = get_object_address_defacl(castNode(List, object), @@ -1961,13 +1969,14 @@ get_object_address_usermapping(List *object, bool missing_ok) } /* - * Find the ObjectAddress for a publication relation.
