Hi all,
The original article is there:
Here's a fast (& bad) translation I just done for the non-french readers:
EnterpriseDB comes to bite Oracle's calfs in Europe
2 feb 2007 - by Olivier Rafal
American editor of a database based on the Open Source PostgreSQL,
EnterpriseDB decided to expand its activities in Europe, by opening a
site in London, about one month after the opening of the one in Hong
Kong. The editor estimates that 50% of the downloads are done from
abroad USA, when its sales are done at 85% on the domestic market (USA).
EnterpriseDB aims particularly Oracle customers, by affirming that its
database is compatible with 3/4 of the software originaly developed
under Oracle, and proposing an aggressive pricing, comparable to the
MySQL one.
EnterpriseDB has however changed its business model. Often said as an
Open Source editor (wich is not true), the company was often asked for
PostgreSQL support. Then they understand there was a potential market
here, and they now propose support formulas starting from 1000 dollars
per CPU per year.
