Hmmm...is this something else that needs fixing?  The doc says dates
range from 4713 BC to 32767 AD.

test=> select '11754179-08-04'::date;
      date      
----------------
 11754179-08-04
(1 row)

test=> select '11754179-08-05'::date;
     date      
---------------
 4801-01-01 BC
