xTuple 3.0: PostgreSQL-powered ERP announces milestone release

Posted on 2008-06-30

xTuple, the leader in open source enterprise resource planning software, today announced the release of xTuple ERP 3.0, with an array of powerful new tools that enable ordinary system users to get more functionality from the world's most advanced open source ERP system -- with no coding required. Among the key new features is a user-friendly Screen Builder for designing customized system dashboards and the world's only open source assemble-to-order (ATO) Product Configurator for streamlining non-inventory order processing.

"xTuple has the most powerful open source ERP system on the market, but there's been a perception that you need to be a C++ coder or database guru in order to make changes," said Ned Lilly, president and CEO of xTuple. "We've eliminated that barrier with a user interface designer that allows end-users to create new screens and menu options with literally no coding required."

With the Product Configurator -- a major new feature unique among open source ERP offerings -- sales, customer service representatives and even outside order systems can create configured product orders on demand, with a seamless integration through pricing, manufacturing, inventory and all other order fulfillment functions. Configuration begins at the item level, where list prices can be associated with characteristics, such as size or materials, which are selected at order entry and drive changes to pricing.

Other upgrades among the hundreds of enhancements in xTuple ERP 3.0 include:

* Advanced Warranty Tracking that affords the option to pre-assign lot or serial numbers to Return Authorizations and provides a system for multi-level historical trace, lot/serial characteristics, and warranty registration and tracking for lot/serial controlled items.

* Improved Internationalization and Localization through enhanced visual calendars, and automatically formatted numbers, dates and times based on standard language and country translation settings -- ensuring precision and consistency in processing for multi-geographic applications.

* User Roles and Groups configuration that provides enhanced system security and ease of maintenance by allowing administrators to set application-level privileges for employee groups and then assign individual users to these groups. Changes to group privileges are automatically updated for all users in the group, and users may be assigned to multiple groups.

* In addition to the Screen Builder, support for Javascript to allow power users to further customize application functionality.

"I've spent 32 years in manufacturing, and have implemented a variety of ERP systems for various companies," says Wes Jacobs, General Manager of Creamer Metal Products in London, Ohio. "What's really impressed me is that with every release of their product, xTuple adds in more sophisticated features for power users - but they also continue to make it easier to use for the everyday person."

xTuple ERP PostBooks Edition is the company's entry-level offering, available completely free and open source, and suitable for small businesses of all kinds.
